Funny thing is, only one of the hijackers was killed by the raid, the other was actually killed by a sky marshal when the plane was mid-flight, and he did so without killing any passengers. In other words, the entire "special" forces team killed the same number of hijackers as a single sky marshal, they just also killed 2/3rds of the hostages

Hostage rescue is also an exceptionally difficult and skill intensive mission very different from more traditional commando work. There's a select few units even today that are good at it.
