Canada is joining a U.S-led maritime force to protect commercial ships transiting the Red Sea that have come under attack from drones and ballistic missiles fired from parts of Yemen controlled by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Canada's initial contribution will be a handful of personnel, two government sources said. One of the sources said these will be staff officers who will likely be assigned to work at a regional U.S. command and help with operational planning.
The ideal vessel for this maritime force would be an air-defence destroyer, able to handle threats such as anti-ship ballistic missiles, but Canada doesn't have such a capability at the moment.
This is a navy that used to have aircraft carriers

That's about as much of a contribution as they should make considering how much of the trade there is going to Canada. Watch as Europe makes a token contribution, Asia does nothing, and Cuckmerica ends up providing 90% of the force. Somebody remind wtf our national interest in this is supposed to be.

Australia already refused to cooperate because they don't want to upset the Lakemba-Australians.

France and Britain will probably make a decent contribution. A Royal Navy ship has already started shooting at stuff in the red sea. Not sure what they're expecting from the Seychelles though

Canada's West Coast is an afterthought in terms of population. We have so many goods from Asia coming through the Suez to the East Coast through Halifax or Montreal.

I think it's because distances closer to the equator are underrepresented.

Yes but because our population is East-biased we still have a lot of shipping on the East Coast.
