Meta going all in on VR has me puzzled. Literally billions of dollars spent (so far) on technology that few people even care about. And this is all they have to show for it so far lmao.

Big tech companies like Meta and Google have literally too much money. They're perfectly content throwing away money on flash-in-the-pan failures if there's a chance it takes off and becomes the next big thing. Even if nine projects crash and burn, if that tenth blows up, it'll be worth it in the end.

Have Meta had a single hit yet though? At least some of Google's stuff has worked out

FB Marketplace, buying Insta and WhatsApp?

Marketplace is a good one actually, I hadn't thought about that. Instagram and Whatsapp were already massive when FB bought them so I'd put them under a different category

I see how this can be profitable in the long term, since it's turning life into a gacha game, but I don't know how they'll be able to get enough people to adopt it. Buying a $200 headset for uncanny valley VR Chat doesn't have the same appeal as getting waifu pngs on a phone you already have. Now, if they were to go full SAO and make a VR MMORPG, I might just have to take the blue pill.

Tech companies aren't about turning a profit, they're about selling investors on vague promises of stratospheric growth. Burning billions on an r-slured moonshot > admitting "sorry guys, userbase is pretty stagnant so don't expect much stock movement" at the next quarterly meeting.

Billions spent on a game and they havent implemented fricking LEGS

Even Atari games could give us a rich player experience that included animated legs

An extremely rich player experience :marseycoomer2:

Which blows my mind because one man indie devs can do better. Seems like a classic design by committee failure.

IMO would have been much better/easier/cost effective to start up a bunch of astroturfed "indie" game studios and just harvest the IPs

Someone out there can surely implement legs

this is going to be such a gigantic flop and literally everyone knows it lol, why do they continue to act otherwise

Isn’t it already a flop? I feel like there was a little goodwill left for the project last year but at this point it’s just hitting the presses to be mocked.
