Amazon lays off thousands of employees

:soycry: Why would Elon Musk do this??? :soycry:

The job cuts of approximately 10,000, which would start as soon as this week, would focus on the company’s devices organization, retail division and human resources.

Amazon plans to lay off approximately 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs starting as soon as this week, people with knowledge of the matter said, in what would be the largest job cuts in the company’s history.

The cuts will focus on Amazon’s devices organization, including the voice-assistant Alexa, as well as at its retail division and in human resources, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The total number of layoffs remains fluid. But if it stays around 10,000, that would represent roughly 3 percent of Amazon’s corporate employees and less than 1 percent of its global work force of more than 1.5 million, which is primarily composed of hourly workers.

They have 1.5 million employees.

They hired 500k in 2020 alone. Losing 10k is a drop in the bucket to them. But I'm sure it will be spun as "the world is ending" "tech bubble is bursting".

Most of those are warehouse workers no? This is laying off like single digit percentage of corporate employees?

If you did your research, you would know that most of our employees are not warehouse workers. We are laying off a significant percentage of our corporate employees because we are not doing well as a company. Maybe you should do your research before you make ignorant comments.

HR diversity people getting cut. lmao

Interesting that the devices people are on the chipping block. They mention Alexa but I wonder if it's more about their Kindle readers. I wanted to buy a new one myself but you can get the same thing on a tablet. I like their library organization on the Kindle though.
