$1200 / 4080 = $0.29

$1600 / 4090 = $0.39

As you can clearly see, you're getting a lot more RTXs for your $ with the 4080.

Christ, I remember the not too long ago days when the 80 tier cards were less than $600 at launch.

>G*mers when confronted by economy of one of the most complicated goods humanity has ever produced

2020: Waaah GPUs aren't available

2022: Waah GPUs too expensive

I don’t think this an economics thing when Apple (notorious for high margins) didn’t increase their prices when they’ve literally said there’s shortages from lockdowns :marseymerchant:.

Apple has weird supply chain that isn't used crypto and other stuff + the high margins allow them to maintain MSRP when production costs go up

Yes but a $500 increase?

It's pretty well-known that nvidia pumped up their production of 3000-series cards a ton to cash in on crypto shit, they've got a fricking ton of inventory left and if they price these any lower then they won't be able to clear it out.

good for them lol

if they price these any lower then they won't be able to clear it out.

guess theyll lose money then? Or maybe theyre not dumb and expect demand to surge after rates drop in 2024 idk,

Surging demand in 2024 is irrelevant to the 3000-series, particularly the high-end cards. They're not the only game in town and can't keep the charade up that long, since AMD didn't frick up the same way (by overproducing). With every month that goes by, the relative value of the 3000-series cards drops - it's already a fair bit below MSRP for most models. The longer it takes to sell them, the more loss they'll take on each card.

Reminder that NVDA is literally down over 50% from 12 months ago.

I dont remember massive chip shortages before the covid lockdowns, could be wrong but I never had a problem buying GPUs before

Market price is a boogeyman for them. Like bruh don't buy them

Since i!m told that most of today's g*mers are women, why do you need to buy that expensive a graphics card to play Candy Crush or Homescapes?

1200 bucks is honestly reasonable in this economy. More so when it is a complete peepee measuring luxury good. Outside of mining, modeling, and a certain indie VR "game", the card has no functional purpose whatsoever.

Probably gonna get one lmao.

I like dunking on g*mers but the price is shitty ($500 increase). It’s pretty clear novideo wants to clear the glut of 3000 series they made before crypto mining tanked earlier in the year.

Yeah 3070s are very reasonable atm. I'm really thinking about ruining Christmas for the inlaws by buying my 9yo nephew a legitimate set up.

Highly recommend spoiling (favorite) nephews and nieces.

I'm unironically probably gonna get the 4090 instead, but I'm waiting a bit for the kinks to get ironed out.

The price is not worth the performance gains and mining and AI work is better done on 3090s for cheaper. There is no reason whatsoever to purchase a RTX 4080 at 1200 dollars.

What about just not buying it then?

This would usually be the “save up wagie paychecks and buy for Christmas” deal, $700 luxury. It’s now $1200 which is much closer to the “buggati for nerds” 4090 price, $1600.

If $700 is save up money they should probably stop playing video-games and focus on their career

Same thing another user posted, it’s a complete luxury good with zero utility. Not exactly the best impulse purchase.

It will get better, now that crypto is tanking.

Jump in the discussion.

The issue is likely from the glut of 3xxx series cards that were made for crypto deman or used cards that are being sold off after crypto crashed.
