FBI Pretends That End-to-End Encryption Is 'Deeply Concerning' as Privacy Groups Bury Their Heads In The Sand About Apple's Advanced Data Protection Backdoors Being Pre-released To Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies

Just plant some drugs on them hold them at gun point until they unlock their phone then inject them with LSD/meth combo before getting them arrested by the police.

Then call them crazy junkie when they try to complain

"This hinders our ability to protect the American people from criminal acts ranging from cyber-attacks and violence against children to drug trafficking, organized crime, and terrorism," the bureau said in an emailed statement. "In this age of cybersecurity and demands for 'security by design,' the FBI and law enforcement partners need 'lawful access by design.'"

Looks good on paper.

During his time as an NSA analyst, directing the work of others, Snowden recalled a moment when he and his colleagues began to have severe ethical doubts. Snowden said 18 to 22-year-old analysts were suddenly

"thrust into a position of extraordinary responsibility, where they now have access to all your private records. In the course of their daily work, they stumble across something that is completely unrelated in any sort of necessary sense—for example, an intimate nude photo of someone in a sexually compromising situation. But they're extremely attractive. So what do they do? They turn around in their chair and they show a co-worker ... and sooner or later this person's whole life has been seen by all of these other people."

Snowden observed that this behavior happened routinely every two months but was never reported, being considered one of the "fringe benefits" of the work.

Does not work in reality.

Snowden's claim's don't even make sense, beyond how ridiculous they are. The sheer amount of data throughput and compute power that it would take, to do what? Spy on all Americans? To what end? Who's manning these watch floors that are spying on 400 million Americans while we struggle to even stay on top of our adversaries? What would they even do with that info? If the government had some all-seeing program like Snowden imagines wouldn't p-dophiles and traffickers have a much harder time?

His shit doesn't make sense as anything but scifi, and if you actually read the raw material he put out you have to be pretty imaginative to draw the specific conclusions from it he drew.

What's more likely is what is evident in his book and on his Rogan interview, and the House Select Committee report on him - Snowden is a serial exaggerator and fabulist, with a great sense of self importance. Has been for a long time.

Totally correct if information could never be used to exploit or blackmail others and if government officials are altruistic welfare-maximizing angels that put citizens over themselves, friends, coworkers, and of course politicians. You truly are r-slurred.

You're right... Snowden was totes 'almost' Special Forces when he failed to complete Army basic training, then went from helpdesk zero to deputy technologist in the CIA with no degree.

He said so, so it must be.

It's more about having an unaccountable federal agency that's impervious to public inquiry because it created its own legal system that protects its treasure trove of exploitable information on US citizens. If you can't get over how much of a shithead Snowden is and can't fit the puzzle pieces together because of some backwards vision of unicorn government, then you are truly hopeless.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Oh no, I don't think it's incorrect that the federal government is rife with people with the capacity and willingness to do such things. It just doesn't work how Snowden says it does.

He grifts attention off of a lie. But someone in the government did eavesdrop on Michael Flynn's phone call with the Russian ambassador. And the Obama administration did unmask him.

It's like how Bob Lazar claims to have insider knowledge of UFOs and aliens. If a UFO landed tomorrow, Bob Lazar would still be a liar.

You don't need Snowden's talk time on Joe Rogan to understand that government officials aren't altruistic welfare-maximizing agents. You still ignore the bigger picture because it's clouded by some weird mental block (your assumptions about how you believe people in power behave, presumably). If you want something interesting and credible to read about the US intelligence community, check out James Bamford's stuff.

It's not like Big Brother is literally spying on you through the wall. What Snowden is saying is that day-to-day work at the CIA is like a drama thread, but they have the doxx on any interesting character they come across.

Snowden was saying that the NSA literally mass-scrapes all data on every platform you can name, and that those companies are complicit.

To prove that assertion he posted a slide from a presentation on PRISM, just showing a workflow that goes from NSA to, say, Google. What that slide appears to actually show is the process of FISA warrant fulfillment.
