My grandma used to help a lady who was an emeritus anthro professor. She gifted me some introductory books and I loved it. All those cultures, beliefs, human structures! Maybe I could devote my education/hobby time to that? Then I met anthro students. :marseyno:

I plan staying in academia as long as i can grift research programs that dont force me to suck the gock because i essentially get paid to travel around the world in exchange of pretending to care what people decades older than me there have to say about their own researches.

The day i either get caught laughing at trains or get outed as an rdrama dot net user, ill make sure to effortpost about it.

Ya boi's getting out in a bang. :marseysalutearmy:

Unfortunately today that means joining the pronouns on bio squad and endlessly talking about decolonization and it's pretty hard to fake that sort of thing if you're actually a fair and decent person and not into weird performative narcissism.

this type of ‘anthropology of the self’ is a new and disappointing trend. (Most famously, it included a paper in which an anthropologist kept a masturbation diary about his self-pleasure while viewing Japanese anime-pornography. Another such example, in which an anthropologist wrote about her yoga exercises, was published in Anthropology News.)

"One particularly ironic talk was about online mothers’ groups whose members teach their children to have bodily autonomy to be able to say no to relatives’ physical affection (such as a grandmother’s hug or kiss). Her research basically involved joining an online group and teaching her own son that it is okay to say no to affection"

Why are people so pathetic and ungrounded these days that they just let themselves be brainwashed so easily by shit they see online?

The article was an interesting read and I await her prompt cancellation for pointing out yet another grift. I notice she writes on Quillette which seems to be a good place to find interesting reads.

In his talk, Sabiston tried to connect the “255 surreptitious burials” associated with the residential Indian schools in Kamloops, British Columbia, with current deaths and missing indigenous young adults in Canada. Sabiston’s bias against residential schools was evident, especially in the question-and-answer period. He said, “the whole reason for residential schools is to destroy indigenous life.” Although there is no evidence of any suspicious graves associated with Kamloops residential school, Sabiston noted that the ground-penetrating radar (GPR), which he claims is now a sacred tool imbued with ancestral knowledge, has shown anthropologists where the graves are. Thus, the ancestors are guiding the GPR to find the graves and are using it to talk to the anthropologists!

Asking for evidence of bodies, according to Sabiston, plays to “right-wing pundits.” Never mind the fact that not a single individual has been excavated. There is also evidence that the ground disturbances are not grave-related. And, if there are bodies that were surreptitiously buried, then some of these burial sites would be considered crime scenes, since they didn’t happen all that long ago (perhaps as recently as the early 1980s). Murder cases going back decades are solved regularly, especially with advances in DNA technology. Yet, if one questions the validity of claims regarding clandestine graves, Sabiston’s response is that “skepticism is violence.”

Somebody redpill me on this, they haven't unearthed any of the bodies at that one residential school in Canada? I thought they had located grave sites that were unmarked and regularly spaced nearby the school with GPR. Obviously it is hard to tell what exactly is in the ground from the radar screen, but the natives are objecting to digging up the (likely) kids to perform any forensics to determine cause of death/identity/ancestry?

Last I checked there was HUGE disagreement over what to do… which is what you’d expect from current year dialogue on this topic.

My guess is that in general whatever authority is in charge or this decision is wanting to leave it ambiguous because they are afraid of what will happen when we find out for sure. If they get dug up, the situation is out of control really, whereas as it stands now you can really just argue any position and take the possibility that is most convenient for your group. Some natives are objecting, some aren’t, but we will listen to the ones who are objecting until it is convenient to do something different or until the hand is forced.

Laughing my butt of at ground penetrating radar being the spirit tool, I hope it is the shining sword that uncovers all evils of the country

If you research the news articles more thoroughly you'll discover that the 'grave sites' may in fact not even be grave sites, or may be totally legitimate graves of people that have died of TB.

The reporting of the 'grave site discoveries' is being done in a way which really serves to convey a narrative and interestingly enough, the 'affected tribes' are very reluctant to allow any type of investigation or exhumation that has the possibility to reveal that in fact, there aren't any graves at all.

From the way it's being reported you'd get the impression there was a secret holocaust and thousands of children were killed and unceremoniously dumped in mass graves. Do your own research on this one.

For instance, to bring one hat and one ‘talking stick’ to an indigenous community within driving distance of the museum costs around $10,000.

Follow the money. As usual it's a grift, just a white collar race hustle.
