I managed to get my hands on a homegrown chink processor. My favorite part is it's actually broken and you have to code around it lol

Unfortunately, most of the Loongson 2F-based hardware available at that time suffers from serious problems in the processor's branch prediction logic, causing the system to freeze, for which errata information only exists in the Chinese documentation (chapter 15, missing from the English translation), the only English language information being an email on a toolchain mailing-list.

I got mine shipped from China but got hella screwed on the price. Odd ball enough I still think it's worth it. It was even brand new in box. Any mainlanders here probably have plenty of info.

Lol it's not about what size you can theoretically make stuff. It's about being able to do so with an error rate low enough that you can actually use the chips.

Know a guy who works in steel logistics. Dumbass knows mandarin so his company throws him at the chinese to make sure they aren't fricking with the tolerances to cut corners (they are, constantly)

is likely to spark alarm among Western officials

This phrase must go back to the beginning of the Cold War. It means "this isn't really a big deal and we couldn't get any Western officials to say they were alarmed".

I thought the main problem was the supply? Obviously we thought it would have taken them longer (and lets be honest they've probably got a ways to go to get as good) but the big thing was them not buying the chips we also needed
