From a total outsider's perspective, when Google has work carefully classified into these tiers like L3 or L7 or whatever it just REALLY makes it sound like a comically bloated company that needs to break up and get smaller. How can you expect there to be any creativity or innovation in an environment like that.

I know people who work at Google and from what I hear literally everything is so comically overengineered and bureaucratized it would make the Vogons blush. It honestly sounds like an awful environment if you like to actually code.

It’s not as rigid as it sounds. As a mid-level engineer, you aren’t designing a product that requires 20 engineers and will take 3 years to launch. It’s not like individual tasks are signed by level though.
