For non-codecels here, Eclipse is a shitty open-source IDE that's been around for fricking ages. Ditto Netbeans but at least Netbeans was designed as a Java IDE, whereas Eclipse was never designed as anything.

IntelliJ is the "newer" IDE and is better than the other 2 by every possible metric. It's not even remotely close.

OP seems upset that IntelliJ reasonably requires people to purchase it (although there's a free version that has most features and they really are only going after companies for licenses). Must be poor or something.

I use Eclipse CDT

It frequently marks valid code as errors

I'm too addicted to switch away from it, nothing else I've found has the same features

I have worked in several big tech companies, and I have only ever used Intellij free. I really don't even know what I would use IntelliJ pro for

It has Spring integration which is useful if you're an enterprisecel.

tbh I'm in the same boat, although tbf I'm one of the only people here who uses it.

I think the IntelliJ free edition is still objectively better than whatever Eclipse or Netbeans are doing these days, except with those IDEs there isn't even a choice of some "premium" version.

Just has a couple more nice qol features. Nothing must need tho imo. If your company pays for it, use it. If not stick with the free version.

Eclipse has better key shortcuts than intellij, and I will fight anyone that says otherwise. It is terrible in literally every other way. Fortunately for me intellij comes with an eclipse key map by default so I can enjoy the best of both

Android Studio is developed by IntelliJ, and all their IDEs are basically the same

Sylow's 4th Theorem? You sound like a 3rd year mathematics undergrad who has just learned a basic piece of info and thinks it makes him "cool" unlike all the other kids who've never even heard of the centraliser of a group.

And you would be correct.

:marseyshrug: maybe but I know IntelliJ has a bunch of Android-specific features so it's probably better at that too
