Comment history. On boats:

my family had a boat business. I grew up with tens of boats present in their establishment at any one time.

On probability and statistics:

I have a degree in mathematical probability

On pancakes (repeatedly):

pancakes are a millennial degeneracy

For non-codecels here, Eclipse is a shitty open-source IDE that's been around for fricking ages. Ditto Netbeans but at least Netbeans was designed as a Java IDE, whereas Eclipse was never designed as anything.

IntelliJ is the "newer" IDE and is better than the other 2 by every possible metric. It's not even remotely close.

OP seems upset that IntelliJ reasonably requires people to purchase it (although there's a free version that has most features and they really are only going after companies for licenses). Must be poor or something.

I have worked in several big tech companies, and I have only ever used Intellij free. I really don't even know what I would use IntelliJ pro for

Jump in the discussion.

It has Spring integration which is useful if you're an enterprisecel.

tbh I'm in the same boat, although tbf I'm one of the only people here who uses it.

I think the IntelliJ free edition is still objectively better than whatever Eclipse or Netbeans are doing these days, except with those IDEs there isn't even a choice of some "premium" version.

Jump in the discussion.

Just has a couple more nice qol features. Nothing must need tho imo. If your company pays for it, use it. If not stick with the free version.

Eclipse has better key shortcuts than intellij, and I will fight anyone that says otherwise. It is terrible in literally every other way. Fortunately for me intellij comes with an eclipse key map by default so I can enjoy the best of both

Jump in the discussion.

I use Eclipse CDT

It frequently marks valid code as errors

I'm too addicted to switch away from it, nothing else I've found has the same features

Android Studio is developed by IntelliJ, and all their IDEs are basically the same

We end up stuck using Eclipse because our companies are too cheap to shell out for IntelliJ

I hate Java so much it's unreal

Jump in the discussion.

I never understood why some companies would pay 6 figures for a swe but refuse to pay 500 bucks for dev tooling or a few thousand for good hardware so people aren't waiting for builds to complete.

I used to use eclipse/pycharm but moved over to spyder for python, it is just extremely simple and works.

Most people I show it to first have questions about it being really simple and lacking x bullshit feature. Having the variable explorer as default is amazing, don't know how anyone works without one.

Jump in the discussion.

I liked Spyder for a while but I hate how it integrates into python. Every time I upgrade python it decides to shit the bed for months and not integrate well. I'd rather have a CMD environment for it.

Nooooo but muh bloaterino, it uses a heckin’ 4GB of RAM out of the 32 on my generic wagie computer.:soycry:
