Redditors are rebelling against a heckin change the admins made on feeds [26 points, 52% upmarseyd, 218 comments]

Removing the username attribution is annoying and seems like an unhelpful change. Why was that decision made?

Edit: see admin response below. Not satisfactory, in my opinion. [4 awards]

Possible rdrama mention

In making the main feeds easier to digest, we had to make some hard choices on removing low usage attributes — and found that very few redditors in our mixed feeds actually click on the username. You’ll still be able to get the username attribution in our community page and comments page, where this info will be more relevant as people dive into conversations and interest areas [-149 points, admin]

I suddenly no longer feel a thirst for a refreshing, classic taste with fewer calories — as if millions of usernames suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced [-26 points, :marseybardfinn3: ]

lmao what an asinine excuse

Posts on the main feeds will now have a cleaner layout with less unused space and greater emphasis on community to make it easier for redditors to find the conversations they’re looking for.

Like yeah I realize this is just to remove visibility of people with offensive sexual usernames and that’s a decision a company this size has to make and that’s fine, but this public reasoning :marseyxd:

Absolutely no one has ever gone on their Reddit feed to have a conversation. Not once. Ever. I wholeheartedly agree with Reddit’s assessment of their userbase in that they can’t give the real reason to them because Redditors are braindead children who like to pretend it’s not a multibillion dollar global corporation, but Jesus Christ.

The fact that reddit is valued at $6.6 billion is a more convincing argument against capitalism than all 33 chapters of Das Kapital.

It's not even about offensive usernames. It's intended to disguise ads and cover up the fact that about 10 powerjannies control the whole site.

It's about the ads. They're going to make a move later on to neuter 3rd party apps, they want to make it look like ads were already pretty stealth in the official app, and the neutering has nothing to do with greed and money, it's about security and complicated tech stuff.
