My company brought more snacks in and started paying for lunch every day. They've been trying to get people to come back to the office without outright forcing them. I'm not sure why they're so hellbent on spending money on offices with our financials looking so shit

The entire industry seems to be throwing random shit at the wall right now in hopes of achieving...something. The retrospectives will be interesting

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'hiring like crazy, benefits for days' paradigm returns in a few years once the economy is more stable, but yeah, the schizo leadership decisions are probably here to stay for the next few years. I think I'm going to lay low in another industry until things change, shit's fricked and I'm affected by it personally.

I'm indirectly affected too. I'm thinking about maybe pivoting to something else idk. I still make money but I'm bored af if I'm honest and just need a change.

I forget what you do, but a lot of non-tech companies are hiring like crazy for tech roles right now if you don't want to make a complete change.

The only thing I could think of that would actually get people in the office would be to tie advancement opportunities to being in person. Being in free LSS and other certification courses, but only for in-office people. Everyone else can pay for their own online ones.

It makes sense considering you're only going to be networking in person anyways. The people that just want to do work can do that, but the ones that are serious about climbing and advancing will do what they can to come in person :marseynotes:

This is true. But the only people going back to the office right now are people who would have worked in the office without any incentives, at least where I work

I've never been less productive than WFH lol. Anyone that says they're more productive is laying based on my personal experience that is the only reality

I can imagine whatever bank your company's line of credit is with calling your CFO and going "our commercial real estate loans are fricked rn, I'm telling you and all the other companies banking with us to pretty please get your wagies back into their cagies or it's over for the both of us"

Corpos know that employees in the office is better in general but also that forcing people back may be a net loss if it gives them hiring issues / people leave for online jobs. If WFH was equal or better they’d be pushing it while getting rid of office space, not the other way around.

How is middle management gonna micromanage people when they can only seen a 15deg angle of your room?

Commercial leases tend to be pretty long I think. In person interactions for other business segments like sales or if the company has clients over still makes sense

Commercial leases are 15+ years, the money is spent already regardless of financials.
