Realistically, there'll be a lot of steps before admins start nuking modteams. Because the admins don't want to have to run a few thousand mod applications, and probably don't have the capabilities. My guess is that they'll ignore it for a while, maybe a week. Then they'll start sending out increasingly stern messages to subreddits' modmails. Maybe the big subs would have mod applications of some kind, but I can't see the admins caring about random <1M subscriber subs enough to do anything except maybe force then public and tell them to not do it again or else.

This all assumes that mods won't freak out about potentially getting removed from the one thing in their lives they have power over and completely backtrack everything. And already that's happening in droves, every sub I'm still a mod in is seeing infighting between the mods who are down to protest and the the career bootlickers who'd do anything to stay on/ get moved up the totem pole. It's frankly hilarious to see them try to argue that it's about anything other than 'but they might remove meeeeeee' because ultimately there is no good reason to not commit other than that. The logic seems to be 'they aren't listening to us because they think we'll stop complaining eventually, therefore we should stop complaining now'. Which is laughable.

my cursor has hovered over the delete account button so many times this week holy frick i have no idea how i used to have the patience for this dumbass janny drama

You're talking about mods that pretend to do special things but actually do not. Any rando can step in to many (or most) subreddits and do just fine.

Admins will care about these subs, but they'll probably end up delegating a lot of the mopping here to a new admin-friendly powermod clique. You're going to see a small number of jannies suddenly acquire a huge amount of power.

Realistically, there'll be a lot of steps before admins start nuking modteams. Because the admins don't want to have to run a few thousand mod applications, and probably don't have the capabilities.

They have a tool to surface potential mods in a nice, convenient format. They can run it, then hand it over to peons to follow up with the users.

I'd put money on the big subs being forced open within the next few days. Agree that they won't give a shit about niche subs.

Pretty sure the recent shit about handing over subs to lower level mods who want to open the sub and the whole "vote to remove mods" was intended to have this exact result - get the mods fighting and freaking out over potentially being demodded instead of focusing on the admins.

When you argue with people who are pro blackout, bring up this talking point "Current mods only need 3rd party apps because they moderate to many subs"

Also, be sure to argue for the blackout as well, Be as obnoxious condescending and dismissive as possible. We have to make people hate these people after all.

Unless Reddit is stupid, they'll cherry-pick a subreddit that is acting most egregiously (indefinite shutdown + off-site migration) and force it open, then start going down a list, adjusting their velocity in order to moderate outrage. Despite what the jannies think, no one is going to get angry over this unless they're already angry.

Carp posted and removed a screenie of admins message mods on a sub (don't know which one). Either Reddit wants to bend the knee or they are giving jannies a final attempt to compromise and cut it out. The message mentions that their tools support what they want and ask to schedule a call.

I hope the user revolts puts a chink in the powerjanny ego armor.

As much as I want Reddit to bring the hammer down on power jannies for the drama I doubt that management will do anything too hasty. My guess is the management will throw some small bone towards jannies and call it good.

But there’s also zero situation where I think jannies come out on top in this. The Apollo dev has already buckled and is going to increase sub costs to try to pay for API changes. I don’t think they will back down on that besides maybe dialing down the price some. The userbase overall also gives zero shits about this, it’s pretty much just the top 1% of users/power jannies that do.

Jump in the discussion.

I wanted to vote with my :marseyhope: too for total jannycide but I think admins will force the big subs to go public (little subs are fricked) and let jannies stay.

They've already thrown bones?

accessibility apps will be allowed to continue. mod bots either are below the api call limit or will get exceptions. pushshift iwll come back.

there's only one thing left: pricing for other 3rd party apps like apollo. and they will not give up on that.

After years online, I hate Europeans. Nothing can change my mind.

They clearly hate us, why shouldn't I hate them in return? Every time something bad happens to our country and our citizens, Europeans are always there to cheer and take pleasure at our misfortune. Whether it be a natural disaster, 9/11 or even Covid. They're nasty, mean spirited people. One of the things they complain most about was the atomic bombings of Japan in WW2. As someone who loves Japanese people, I wish we could've nuked a European country instead. Those fricks up until very recently were exploiting and fricking over 2/3rds of the globe. They deserve nukes more than the Japanese ever did. To any European who reads this, frick you and frick whatever Eurotrash country you're from.
