More than 10 years ago, we created Chromebooks to bring you easy-to-use computers that offer reliable performance and unmatched security. Today, we're introducing a new category of Chromebooks that takes the promise even further: Chromebook Plus.

With double the performance1, Chromebook Plus offers built-in Google apps and powerful AI capabilities. It also offers Google Photos Magic Eraser and Adobe Photoshop2 on the web to help consumers boost their productivity, inspire their creativity and make everyday tasks intuitive. It's a laptop experience that optimizes hardware performance with software apps and cowtools, all at a starting price of $399.

Designed to get more done

Laptop shopping is harder than it should be. You can easily get lost in a sea of numbers and technical specs, and it's hard to know what products will actually give you what you need, at the price you want.

We've spent a lot of time listening to laptop users and have worked closely with our partners at Acer, ASUS, HP and Lenovo to build a guaranteed standard of performance that people can depend on to get what they need done. Today, we are announcing eight new Chromebook Plus laptops.

All Chromebook Plus laptops offer faster processors1 and double the memory and storage1, giving you the power to get more done, easily. All Chromebook Plus laptops also come with a Full HD IPS display --- which means you get a full 1080p HD experience when watching streaming content, and crisp, clear viewing for reading, creating content or editing photos and videos. Finally, there's a 1080p+ webcam with temporal noise reduction for smoother, more lifelike video calls.

All Chromebook Plus laptops come with the the following guaranteed hardware specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3 12th Gen or above, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or above

  • RAM: 8GB+

  • Storage: 128GB+

  • Webcamera: 1080p+ with Temporal Noise Reduction

  • Display: Full HD IPS or better display

I store all media on an external HDD cause my laptop has a 256GB SSD. Documents don't take up much storage, it works fine.

"AI capabilities"

I don't see any high end graphic cards in that spec so do they mean access to some cloud service that will probably be very cucked

lol prolly, although I was pleasantly surprised i could run steam games like Inscryption on my non-plus (:marseycryinglaptop:) Chromebook

nah i was being self-depreciating :marseycry: mine has a decent intel processor and ram so multi-tasking's fine compared to my old chromebook that uses an ARM chip

Am I missing something? Only thing this seems to do is create a more modern hardware standard for all the Chromebook manufacturers. These "plus" laptops are worse than my current Chromebook minus the 1080p front cam

idk lol i'm just whining for fun, the new chromebook i bought definitely fits within the chromebook plus criteria

I'm definitely noticing a big difference with an i7 and 16gb ram installed. I bought mine from this website:

darn, an i7 + 16 gb ram for $150 is really a steal! unfortunately chromebooks aren't really a thing where i'm at lol so there isn't a 2nd hand market at all :marseycry:

was it a h265 video? usually you can use ffmpeg to convert it to mp4 if it's just a video in a mkv container

  • you have to log in to your google account although there are distros that can avoid that

  • OS is linux based so the debian container that you can run on the chromebook is pretty fast

  • which in turn allows you to install and run stuff like onlyoffice if you need to work with ms office documents or something, vs code if you need to coooode or most linux apps in the debian repo

  • supports steam now without needing to change to utilising the beta OS channel but obviously only the games with low system requirements will run

i dono what else to say but it doesn't feel as bloated as windows i guess, but admittedly i do still have to remotely access a windows machine if i need to use photoshop or something but a chromebook just feels light and fast for me

also it's cheap :marseyjewoftheorient: but i think it would take some time for you to transition to chromeos from windows

I don't think I have more than 11 days with my new chromebook either. Then again it's a gaming chromebook and I just realized I only surf, read and watch shows on it (I have yet to play minecraft despite installing it since it came for free).

Wait. Never mind I think mine actually qualifies as a "plus". Looks like they're just rebranding their more powerful devices?

hmm probably, I just took a look at the models that are "Chromebook Plus" and I saw the new one I just got and also last year's model that I also have lol

If yours is a gaming chromebook then it's probably pretty powerful, I think they just made it so that you don't need to switch to a beta version of ChromeOS to install Steam!

I just want them to let me install apks without jumping through hooks:marseyraging:. Though at least now I can sideload them by enabling linux. Still a bunch of work though.

lol i disabled the play store because the new virtual machine nonsense they introduced in 2022 to handle android apps was such a resource hog! i really like using linux on a chromebook as compared to WSL on a windows machine, it just feels so much faster for some reason even though both are linux containers

i had to use windows for a period of time recently and it really felt so sluggish as compared to a chromebook even though most people wouldn't perceive the ChromeOS as a :marseyairquotes: serious OS :!marseyairquotes:
