Bongistan "Online Safety Bill" comes into effect

https://old.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/17gw9v2/the_uks_controversial_online_safety_bill_finally

This legislation allows regulators to demand that encrypted platforms like WhatsApp and Signal implement backdoors to scan for CP. Redditors aren't happy about that, naturally.

More importantly, platforms will also need to show they are committed to removing content promoting or facilitating suicide or self-harm.

I'll miss you guys :marseybonggenocide:

I thought they added some back-pedalling clause ‘were (edit: where) technically feasible'. This allows the companies to say ‘it's not and never will be technically feasible' and carry on like usual. The govt can then say ‘we did it guise' without any actual consequences

They did, yes. It's up to OFCOM to decide if it's technically feasible.

Darn. I thought it was up to the companies themselves. I hope OFCOM don't decide to frick things up for everyone
