From the release

But do not take my word for it. The text of the order expressly provides that the FCC would be empowered, for the first time, to regulate each and every ISP's: ● “network infrastructure deployment, network reliability, network upgrades, network maintenance, customer-premises equipment, and installation”; ● “speeds, capacities, latency, data caps, throttling, pricing, promotional rates, imposition of late fees, opportunity for equipment rental, installation time, contract renewal terms, service termination terms, and use of customer credit and account history”; ● “mandatory arbitration clauses, pricing, deposits, discounts, customer service, language options, credit checks, marketing or advertising, contract renewal, upgrades, account termination, transfers to another covered entity, and service suspension.”

lol why not just nationalize it if they want this level of control

It's like Russians making spy gear mandatory at all ISPs but American liberal style where it's mandatory social justice shit

I mean it's the same thing, there's a 100% chance the govt is going to use this to spy.

Is your head up your butt? The nsa already has rooms in every major data center in the us. This is to force ISPs to actually expand their service and provide good internet across America.

Our country is being handicapped by a lot of areas not having access to good internet, and instead ISPs use their ownership of infrastructure to overcharge customers for DSL which makes it more profitable than running new cable out to them.

As for nationalizing these companies, they're moving them to be in line with telephone companies who are already under this level of restriction.

The answer to that is unironically deregulation. Remove barriers that prevent municipal ISPs/small private ISPs and prevent big ISPs from using frivolous lawsuits to shut down small rural carriers

NOOOOOO! More competition on price and quality will make things worse!!!!

>centrally planning everything for the ISPs will expand service and increase quality

That's why they're not centrally planning them. They're adding government oversight to companies that got de facto government sponsored monopolies.

But yeah I'm sure free market economics apply to firmly entrenched utility monopolies.

That infrastructure act has so much of this unrelated bullshit, no doubt lobbied by activist think tanks.

And no one who voted on it read the darn thing and rubberstamped it because the senile r-slur needed a win.

the "costs of building Internet infrastructure in this country have skyrocketed"

Can you believe it folks? When you have higher requirements the hardware gets more expensive.

>Carr explained that the Biden administration's "broadband policies are failing" and the "costs of building Internet infrastructure in this country have skyrocketed" due to his economic policies. While the FCC has been looking to expand "new, 5G services," it has "needlessly blocked and delayed new broadband infrastructure builds" because of "regulatory red tape."

I recently moved out of an area that can be described as "just outside the outer edge of suburbs". It was rural, but not bumfrick-egypt rural. We were stuck with DSL from when they installed in 2008 until I left this (CURRENT :marseysoylentgrin: ) year. I have to believe there's a fed-level op to do whatever is possible to keep the rural rightoids off the grid from spouting their Q nonsense, because the more affluent neighborhoods nearby had fiber for ages, but our fields of apple orchards couldn't.

I'm pretty rural, and I think the builder paid to have fast internet here. I was also looking at a really nice upscale neighborhood about 5 miles away, and they have nothing. Only satellite. They are rural but rich. Some basketball player lives there and paid thousands to have internet installed to his house.

The flipside is that our water system is fricked up so we randomly have this milky white shit in our water. I've moved into an Erin Brockovich movie.

Last year we called our ISP as well their only competing ISP to get an idea of when a better option will be available - our current one at the time said "frick you, actually we're reducing services in your area if the crackheads don't stop digging up our copper". The other said "Give us $20,000 and we'll bring it out there".

So I stayed sneeding with my DSL. :marseysneed: Now I'm on fiber and I'll never look back.

Dang that's awful. Hey at least we don't have the problem of peaceful protestors redistributing essential TVs to the masses.

We don't care about the pretexts you've collected that justify to yourselves why your particular targeted harassment behaviour is justified; It's still a witch hunt, and it's still disallowed by Reddit sitewide rules, and your witch hunt is the kind of thing that gets picked up by those who do evil and given another pretext to go harass other people.

You are building a weapon that breaks Reddit. Reddit admins will not allow it.
