Can any of you linuxchads help me out :marseybegging:

Videos and pretty much anything to do with graphics is lagging the system. Idk much about hardware but I assume this is something to do with graphics card driver?

So I am trying to get set up with desktop env and all my experience with linux has been like half a year on terminal thru ssh.

I was able to install Debian 12 by partitioning like 30 or 40 gigs of space on my HP / intel laptop.

So the monitor, mouse, and keyboard worked on initial boot without me having to do anything so this was nice. But from what I have read intel drivers should already come with the default debian install.

Obviously I don't have this issue when booting to windows so I'm hoping it's just a driver issue.

This is why it will never be the year of linux on the desktop, ever.

You should not be installing Debian as a new user, that's like installing Windows Server right out of the gate. New users should be using Linux Mint or a Ubuntu spin.

plot twist windows server is basically just windows and will work on every box, right out of the box LOL

Is it? I haven't used it in years, the lack of a Windows store probably confuses Zoomers.

kind of an odd position in my case

I'm "new" in the sense that I'm somewhat new to linux, but I'm not new in the sense that I'm not a filthy casual (..relatively..)

debian is the only distro that makes sense to me and I've been breaking n learning on debian throwaway servers for like the past year

it's been a big butt headache for me to learn how to force windows to be stable and I'm not trying to install a distro that randomly just changes shit (wasn't there a huge set of people pissed off about ubuntu using snap then changing their mind or some shit)

That's why I usually suggest Mint, it changes but never super drastically. Also Mint has a debian edition that I've heard is really good.

Debian is really stable, but kinda infamous for being a real pain to initially setup.

meh, turned out I didn't even need to download anything (instead of installing a driver I had to actually just remove the driver intel had given them).

Terminal-wise I have been extremely happy with debian and now that my graphics card can be used normally I don't have any more lag, it's for me the perfect operating system

e: come to think of it, Mint was the distro I was suggested by a coworker when I first asked them about linux. I'm sure it's great but if it ain't broke..

Yeah if Debian is working for you, no need to change it. They are going to be functionally very similar after setup anyways.
