Xda rebranded since the last time I used it :marseyeyeroll:

Do you know which hardware revision/model number/SoC/CPU yours has?

If you can somehow figure out which SoC it has, I can probably find a thread with instructions that won't brick it. Even just the year it was manufactured in would probably be enough.

This shit is super fun; I spent a lot of my teens messing around with rooting and flashing and modding various cheap androids back before Google made rooting break everything important

Oh thanks dude, that offsets what I lost when I pinged the dixie group yesterday lol

The SoC (system-on-a-chip) is basically just the CPU of the device. In an ARM context (so smartphones and small devices like fire sticks and raspberry pis) the CPU+GPU+(sometimes)RAM+etc is all stacked into a single chip, so it's called an SoC as a single unit but the term is practically interchangeable with CPU.

Idk how FireOS is set up these days and how different it is from android at this point, but there should be a way to find an "about" section in settings with info on the model.

This might help. We're looking for the "device type" information. From there it's just a matter of finding the matching xda subforum. It might end up being the one already linked by Bookers.

I had a fire cube. You could sideload apks on it without rooting it. Is there anything else you wanted to do with it that would necessitate rooting it?

I can sideload for sure, but i want to move configuration files as well basically set up an assembly line

I still have it on my desk occasionally looking at it but I've been too busy with like real work to do anything for him and I feel bad about that a little bit. I just I don't want to sign in to an Amazon account on my network or anything related to me I feel like it would make me unclean or something I might do it in like a McDonald's parking lot

You can't make a separate LAN for another wifi device?

:marseyfacepalm:

That part is super easy. Just put it on the guest network. If im hacking a device and it phones home dosent it tie back to me?

Oh, yeah, it would be the same public IP address. I didn't know you're messing with it like that. Can't you do whatever you're doing while it runs offline?

You could unplug your Ethernet cable from your router to the cable modem (or whatever it connects to), keep the wifi running, and it won't go anywhere outside your LAN.

It's much easier setting firewall rules on your guest WiFi LAN, but I'm assuming you don't have anything like pfSense, right?
