Average monthly payment for new cars is over $700. More than 60% of the loan terms are over 67 months.

People are just buying cars as long as their monthly payment fits into the budget. The interest they're paying isn't even being factored into the decision.

Burgers have an overspending problem.

Part of the overspending issue is the lack of a bare bones cheap car imo. Everything is gigantic, overpriced shit

Doesn't help that it's illegal to sell a reasonably priced car. Simply remove all fuel efficiency and safety regulation and cars will get much more affordable

That's what new car buyers are buying, who are people in their 50s (average new buyer age is something like 52). People with families who lug around all their crap. That's what OEMs are catering to.

Car enthusiasts talk a big game but they skew younger and poorer, and they buy used, which is largely useless to OEMs.
