When we identify cartridges that are violating our IP, we stop the printers from working

Every time a customer buys a printer, it's an investment for us. We are investing in that customer, and if that customer doesn't print enough or doesn't use our supplies, it's a bad investment.

!codecels be sure to print enough to be a good investment

That's for old people who are scared of their phones

I bought a black and white laserjet with no network connectivity 5 years ago and couldn't have been happy. Before that I was a replacing an ink jet annually.

I like to have physical copies of flight itinerarys and hotel bookings.

Canon, can't remember the model but it's similar to this:

https://asia.canon/en/consumer/imageclass-mf3010/product

No bullshit software suite to install, just the driver and I've had zero problems.

In the summer my office sits around 95 f and I think that's what was killing my inkjets.

I've got an HP Laserjet Pro P1102W. Have had it for years and have never had to refill it, but always there for the times you need to print something.

No shit

Lots of businesses have learned that you make more money offering services than products

Printer companies have been trying to follow this model since forever ago, it's no secret, especially with HP

The printer you want is Brother brand. It is a laserjet. It is black and white. It will last for roughly 15 years and it will die due to silently eating dust 90% of the time. You will replace the cartridge twice if you know what you are doing.

Whatever happened to "the customer is the reason we exist". I think we need some more pain in this economy but only for PR people specifically

I think he's just saying that they don't have much margin on printers (if any) and actually make money on supplies.

For a while, you could buy a new inkjet printer that came with the shitty small starter cartridges for around the same price as the fill size refill cartridges alone

Are printers even complex technology anymore? I could imagine doing this sort of gatekeeping for modern tech, but printers have been commonplace since the 90s, even 00s era printers do what people need well enough.

with my inkjet of 10+ years I get $10 CYMK bottles and just syringe into the cartridge wells

bypass the "😱 wtf how did I print 2527 pages on one cartridge? Dear, heavens I'm out of ink 😱" error by doing a longpress on the right button

Printers are essentially a dead business, it hardly matters anymore if they try to price gouge.

I'd consider buying legit ink if any of my 3 HP printers had lasted longer than 8 months with very light usage.

If I ever need to print something again I'll just go to a library.
