lol

I'm not particularly a fan of systemd but the hate it gets is really strange and over the top

I love systemd but having this much of an opinion on init systems is like terminal nerd brain. Especially when every project makes it clear they want to use systemds features.

freebsd uses a systemd clone

i mean its just as easy as installing pipewire and using another init system (i use gentoo so it was quite easy) and all of the pots are removed

I like systemd but I don't think about systemd.

The init situation before systemd was painfully bad, and the alternatives remain worse than systemd.

The fact it has a whole kitchen bolted on to the kitchen sink at this point is annoying but i don't care as long as it works.

I said this on here before, but if you used sysvinit for 15 years and one day you installed a new debian server and it had systemd instead, you'd be pissed too. It's not that there was anything great about sysvinit, because there really wasn't, but some people don't like it when shit changes and if you're not one of those people now, you will be when you're older, trust me.

I've since gotten over it and now I think systemd is just fine, so even us curmudgeons can eventually accept new shit, it just takes a while.

how do you use admin computers and not be fully aware that the sands shift every half-decade.

I'm not a pro sys admin, so I don't tend to keep up with Linux. I probably only install a new server once every 2 - 3 years I bet.
