Is x86 (and Windows) a harder drug to quit than CUDA? I'd say yes.

You don't need to quit it you just need to rip it off lol

It might not be as performatively good but any decent team should be able to at least replicate x86 compatible hardware to a functional degree

Are they quitting x86? I know China makes it's own x86 CPUs that are near peer (~5 years behind) with intels

I think they'd prefer to use their own RISC-V based chip or to continue developing Loongson (I made a post of mine before) but they appear to be taking a multi-pronged approach

Why do we need GPUs anyway? What would it take to make something properly modular for that role?

The smartest people in the world and infinite money. Basically every attempt to replace standard hardware with more specialized equipment has failed in the mainstream (or outright).

I'm not a techcel so I'm probably off with the specifics, but cpu's are flexible do it all workhouses that can do complex tasks whereas gpu's are geared to doing relatively simpler tasks, but can do them in parallel so the end result is significantly faster. I assume there are trade offs you make for one or the other which is why there's never been a successful do it all processor.

The DoJ has been technically-not-outright-banning-it-but-"strongly-discouraging" the use of Huawei parts throughout our internet backend infrastructure going all the way back to the early 2010s, culminating with the actual outright ban in 2022 so I can't really blame them :marseyshrug:

Yeah honestly I see it as mostly a shot across the bow at the US to warn that they can't throttle Chinx high-tech computing and manufacturing the way they can with the Ruskies (who are reduced to smuggling and cannibalising whatever they can get their hands on)

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Don't they just buy from third party vendors? There is no need for smuggling and cannibalizing. The free market provides goods even if governments makes it illegal. Black marketplace is pure free market.

I mean what is the black market but smuggling by a different name?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Smuggling isn't exactly smuggling. Sure black market has illegal goods to sell but they don't need to smuggle it. Just sell to x then x sells it to y. There is no smuggling since the exporting is done legally each time.

Do you need powerful chips to do government work? I'm surprised people obsess so much about chip progress when it's increasingly irrelevant for most office jobs.

Most of the default subs are run by bots and shills.

Social media is the Matrix. Look into the ties between big tech and DARPA. The content is curated and contextualized to create a certain response in the public mind. Look up the original definition of Cybernetics.

You are human livestock and the internet is your digital enclosure. And like all good farmers, they have to make sure the herd gets their vaccines or it could mean disaster for the farm!

It's not individuals who just love vaccines making these gay pro vax memes. Someone is being paid to do it by some shitty organization likely with ties to the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts or whatever.
