The DoJ has been technically-not-outright-banning-it-but-"strongly-discouraging" the use of Huawei parts throughout our internet backend infrastructure going all the way back to the early 2010s, culminating with the actual outright ban in 2022 so I can't really blame them :marseyshrug:

Yeah honestly I see it as mostly a shot across the bow at the US to warn that they can't throttle Chinx high-tech computing and manufacturing the way they can with the Ruskies (who are reduced to smuggling and cannibalising whatever they can get their hands on)

Don't they just buy from third party vendors? There is no need for smuggling and cannibalizing. The free market provides goods even if governments makes it illegal. Black marketplace is pure free market.

I mean what is the black market but smuggling by a different name?

Smuggling isn't exactly smuggling. Sure black market has illegal goods to sell but they don't need to smuggle it. Just sell to x then x sells it to y. There is no smuggling since the exporting is done legally each time.
