The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 17, 2024
Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.
To set expectations correctly, the vision… https://t.co/MYLHNcPrw6 pic.twitter.com/RAenDpd3fx
except it really is

In the near future there's gonna be someone blind from birth that gets this and for the first time realizes how fricking ugly they are

imagine being black and blind
since you were a kid, you've been told about how dangerous white men are. these unstable bigots will subject you to violence on a whim!
you steer clear of the dangerous demons, opting for the relative safety of the hood. you never get to know a yt.
then you gain sight and see the average american white man you've feared all your life

A piece of technology mentioned by Elon Musk; he just doomed it to never coming out.

idk he has a good batting average with starlink, tesla, spacex, and the first couple neuralink patients seems to be doing well

It'll just take 2-5x longer than whenever he said.

I hope Musk funds smellovision or whatever from Futurama, so that I can point it at the subway all day and directly fill my apartment with pure Hustle & Bustle

A woman enters the elevator and hardly notices the man already present inside leaning relaxed on the handrails. His slovenly attire tells her all she needs to know about this particular low value male.
She firmly presses the button for 46th floor, noticing the already lit 55th floor button. It will be a long ride she thinks.
She stands tall and confident in the center of the elevator facing the closing doors, making certain her posture is rigid and perfect to psychologically ward off any unwanted attention that casual posture might give this creep an 'in' to strike up conversation.
As the doors seal and the cabin lifts she is struck with a horrible feeling in her stomach. A rumble, then a writhe, and then pressure. Immense pressure that could only be brought on by tacos and tequila that she has previously indulged in with her friends during lunch.
The rumble grows so loud it can be clearly heard over the rushing hum of the elevators climb.
A single, short chuckle from behind answers her question before she had time to think it. He heard that? Then he's going to certainly hear this, she thought in an embarrassed panic.
She leans slightly to her side and attempts to spread a gap between her cheeks but it's not enough. The fart rips supreme bouncing a cacophony off the elevator walls before all at once falling to a deafening silence.
Then came his voice, low and relaxed strangling her from behind.
"Alexa, switch my vision to infrared..."

Darn cyberpunk speedrun. So we got functional robot eyes. We got prosthetic legs that perform almost as good as the real thing. We got prosthetic arms that perform almost as good as the real thing ( guaranteed to perform as good as the human version by the 2030s based on investment in robotics ). Combine robotics advancements in mobility with advancements in 3d printing of organs we should be able to replace all human organs lost to injury by the 2050s guaranteed. 2040s likely. 2030s unlikely.
