I cannot think or comprehend of anything more cucked than writing BSD-licensed software. Honestly, think about it rationally. You are designing, programming, debugging and distributing a piece of software for any number of years solely so it can go and get used in proprietary projects by corporations. All the hard work you put into your beautiful software - writing good documentation, making optimizations, making sure it runs well on other machines, formatting it, troubleshooting it. All of it has one simple result: its codebase is more enjoyable for proprietary projects.

Wrote the perfect software? Great. Who benefits? If you're lucky, a random corporation who had nothing to do with the way it was developed, who uses it. That corporation gets to use it in spyware and DRM, like Minix and IME. It gets the benefits of the software's innovation and optimization that came from the way you programmed it.

As a programmer who writes BSD-licensed software, you are LITERALLY dedicating however many years of your life simply to program software for proprietary corporate/government projects to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically.

I don't know much about specific software licenses but what's wrong with contributing to society because you want the shit you use to function better or just like solving problems better than other r-slurs? Or your own business/job needed something so you built it and released it openly.

Who cares if some corporations with some random business uses it

Selling and licensing niche software tooling commercially is often thankless and unprofitable too

GPG: Chad license

BSD license: cuck license

What's the difference

GPG means any derivative software must also have a GPG license, so its free (as in speech) forever

BSD means any derivative software is fair use. The professor Andrew Tanenbaum wrote an OS called MINIX which Intel lifted and put in literally every chip they made since 2007 as glowie spyware (Intel Management Engine) and Tanenbaum got as many dollars in royalties as bardfinn gets in salary from Reddit.

If Tanenbaum used GPG, Intel would be forced to release open source processors, or hire him on to continue the work under a proprietary license.

He wrote the most prevalent OS in history, and did it for free.

If Tannenbaum had used GPL it would be before 3.0 and have no anti tivoization clause so they could release as many proprietary chips as they wanted (signed code) and still not pay anything.

They could use Linux right now and it wouldn't make a difference (GPL v2)

E: IIRC Linux Torvalds has even stated that he doesn't give a frick about tivoization. The biggest GPL project on earth doesn't care.

GPL neighbors really think their license is "based" when megacorps end up using their software anyways and other megacorps have no problem contributing freely to BSD licensed projects.

It's meaningless autism.

Oh yeah MINIX he wrote those books on operating systems

Look into the IME, he wrote a :seethejak: blogpost about it. As tech it's conspiracy bait (phones home even if system is powered down, lets Intel do remote privilege escalation)

One is a license, and the other is an impenetrably complex cryptography tool chain.

I figured they meant GPL but they said it again in the reply so I went with it

BSD License: You let your wife sleep around.

GPL: You let your wife sleep around, BUT the other men must record themselves fricking her.
