Ars Technica journo: "stressed by the election? Log off and touch grass". Ars Technica users: " :marseyraging: :marseyraging: :marseyraging: :marseyraging:"

https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/11/here-are-3-science-backed-strategies-to-rein-in-election-anxiety/?comments-page=1#comments

If anything the commenters are arguing that people aren't stressed enough by the election.

Jesus, I must be taking crazy pills. We've been hurtling by "reasonable disagreements" for decades and now one of the two possible candidates for president is talking about immigrants "poisoning the blood of our nation" and using the military on the "enemy within". That is neither hyperbole, nor exaggeration, nor straw man.

I consider myself fairly well-informed, and no amount of coping mechanisms can change material reality. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

This article is weird. It's not like the issues the extreme right wing are no longer hypothetical - they're completely visible and have been for awhile. People have been dying because of the policies and actions from Republicans for awhile now, such as abortion laws as just one example.

It kinda feels like telling LGBTQ not to be anxious in the 1950s, or women not to be anxious when the Taliban were taking over the government in Afghanistan, or certain minorities to not be anxious in the Weimar Republic.

All this comment needed was a reference to Star Wars to have ticked off every trope.

I'm going to guess you aren't a person who can get pregnant.

The correct phrase is "dual-hole-having birther".

I'll not just keep pasting comments here, click the link and read more if you want, they're all exactly the same.

Every election is the deciding election for democracy.

If Trump can't kill your fat butt back in 2016, what make them think he will do it now.

I really will never understand how liberals can live their lives without getting heart disease or taking high blood pressure mediation.

They do. Libs also make up the vast majority of people with mental health issues

I figured this was just a joke, but

American adults who identify as politically liberal have long reported lower levels of happiness and psychological well-being than conservatives, a trend that mental-health experts suspect is at least partly explained by liberals' tendency to spend more time worrying about stress-inducing topics like racial injustice, income inequality, gun violence, and climate change.

Now a team of Columbia epidemiologists has found evidence that the same pattern holds for American teenagers.

Liberals are literally teenagers.

Liberals are literally :marseyme: teenagers.

You see this in college, especially with the coddled children :marseychildclutch: of wealthy :marseycosmopolitan: families.

Excuse me sweaty but that's because liberals are on the right side of history and do not stigmatize mental illness, so they self report more mental illness.

I'm barely even a "lib" and definitely do not represent a common median lib. Also I'm not saying libs aren't crazy, just pointing out that the other side has all kinds of crazies too. Well, I was going to but apparently I forgot the text.

I think he really is different to some extent. He's had 4 years to stew, just lying in his own juices being butthurt and having sycophants butter him up. What really matters (goes for most world leaders in general) isn't him, it's who appoints beneath him. In the first term he had a lot of actually honorable sane people trying to run the government, but now it's gonna be... Elon, MTG, Laura Loomer...

I'll support him if he makes Azealia Banks Secretary of State tho.

Shortly after he got elected, I had a nightmare where I was a high-level civil servant and he walked up to me in the White House and told me I should "hero worship" him.

I tried to explain that that's not really what we're here for... :marseyglancing:

I think :marseynoooticer: the establishment made their bed with that. They tried suing, imprisoning, and blackballing everyone :marseynorm: who associated with that administration. I can't tell of that was to create this situation or if it was them lashing out because the elites didn't get their way.

Yeah, they fricked everything up completely. I think there's a lot of good reasons to put him (or most presidents) in prison if you really want to punish him, but instead what do they do? They convict him in New York for a crime that never in a million years would be prosecuted if it was anybody else and then start calling him a "felon", like that's going to change anyone's mind. It's appalling when Trump's entire career was all about white collar crime, then he becomes president and does a lot more illegal stuff, and the one charge they managed to get him stuck with was bullshit. They would have been better off doing nothing.

If any of them cared about prosecuting crimes by politicians, the ones pushing for trumps imprisonment would :marseywood: be in there  with him.
