Just built a new PC and put Win11 on it. Only really annoying thing is it wants to put everything in the cloud. I put nothing in the cloud and keep my own backups.

When I recently installed it, it kept demanding an email account. I just typed a bunch of nonsense in and it let me install it.
Then I found out it named my primary user after the nonsense in the email.
Then I spent a couple hours trying to rename the primary user. There's unironically no official way to do this at all.

oh shit that is annoying. I have an Office 365 account and like OneDrive for picture backups, but all sensitive info and work data I keep off the cloud. It puts everything in the cloud by default. This makes me rage.
I also needed a USB flash drive because it wants Wi-Fi and didn't recognize my device. This would have been really frickin annoying if I didn't have a USB drive hidden in my purse for some reason lol

Protip I mention every time: In Office, press F12 to get the traditional Save-As dialog instead of the Web 4.0 Save To Cloud bullshit
All modern computers, be it Windows 10 or Androids or whatever, I hate that shit where you click on a thing in the start menu or Chrome or whatever and your computer is just like
and nothing happens. Back in the old days you'd hear the hard drive seeking like crazy. Now I'm sitting here wondering if Word is actually gonna open, or is it being a butt.

11 isn't even better than 8.1
Have to mod the shit out of it to fix crap like context menus, folder thumbnails, and so on
Where's my transparent task bar
Why can't I drag'n'drop stuff onto the breadcrumbs in Explorer anymore
Why does Explorer have a 10% chance of a crash every time I open a new file browser window
And holy shit the thing where it inspects the header of every fricking file in a folder the first time I open it (or if I just haven't opened it for a while) is fricking r-slurred, I don't know how people can stand it it's so incredibly fricking slow even on solid state, yeah you can regEdit it away on individual systems but there are a lot of computers in the world, just use the goddarn file extensions to establish types that's what they're FRICKING THERE FOR
Even Notepad opens slow, used to be I could hit Enter on a txt and just keep typing and my system could keep up, no fricking way under 11
I guess I'd take 11 over Vista, but that's not saying much

The only issue w/ Win 11 is they fricked up the taskbar and there's no built-in option to unfrick it. It's great if you always used the "icons only, collapse" setting in win10 but if you didn't then frick you.
That being said I just got StartAllBack and I'm so fricking back bros win11 is great.

i'm scared to update.
a bunch of my apps absolutely broke when I allowed 10 to update to 22H2.
Fusion 360, Cura, Krita, and a bunch of other apps. No errors, no logs, no reactions. Try to launch them and you'd get two seconds of Busy cursor, then nothing. Program disappears from the list of running processes.
Did several reinstalls, left it in a functioning state on 21H2. Woke up the next morning and nothing worked again -- the computer updated to 22H2 overnight.
So now I have updates forced-disabled.

I actually really hate all the UI differences in Win11, why did they change the copypaste buttons to weirdshit icons and make the home directory not your actual home directory by default? That was r-slurred because everything still gets shoved in there, but you can't find it unless you manually look for the filepath.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
