deepseek is a ccp state psyop + economic warfare to make american ai unprofitable

American AI was profitable?

Was any AI ever profitable?

No clue what this neighbor is talking about. If he's correct the Chinese are somehow taking massive losses on DeepSeek in order to hurt US AI companies, despite the lack of an actual plan for profitability using LLMs and the Chinese model being open-sourced and available for Americans to run on their own servers. The DeepSeek team released a paper with their methods and have been very open about how they trained it. Even if they hypothetically ran it using a secret stash of GPUs American companies can actually benefit from the new models and methodology.

There's no point in whining about being undercut here, this isn't manufacturing this is software development so there's not tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs to protect here. It's not even like LLMs are bringing lift changing benefits to people like cars or even drones, they're mostly just fun cowtools that serve as better search engines for hobbyists. "Protecting" a software company besides enforcing copyright (which is hilarious in OpenAI's context) is stupid as heck so I have no idea what the frick that guy is saying.
