🚨🇺🇸 U.S. GOVERNMENT’S ANCIENT TECH GETS A DOGE UPGRADE
— Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) February 5, 2025
Elon just rebranded US Digital Services to US DOGE Services to drag the government’s outdated computer systems into the 21st century.
Despite spending $90B a year on IT, 80% goes to maintaining relics—some over 50 years… https://t.co/dFroVGkcYj pic.twitter.com/NKrPuwn4aG

and they were pretty good at it. They fixed healthcare.gov and built the IRS self-filing app that made TurboTax shit bricks.
For real someone needs to do this, I just don't have any faith in Musk's boy-army. I have supervised enough junior developers to know that sometimes the really clever ones are even stupider and more dangerous than the kinda-dumb ones.

Some years back, I stopped a really sharp kid from trying to migrate us off Postgres onto whatever the NoSQL flavor of the week was at the time (MongoDB? Cassandra?). He was not wrong that it was "more scalable" and would "eliminate schema migrations" so we could "iterate faster".

Helping conduct interviews at my job is eye-opening. The fresh batches of developers are seriously retarded. The last idiot that came through had 2 years of professional Java experience but didn't know the difference between
int
andInteger
.Despite universities graduating ever more CS grads, the amount of developers who are actually competent seems to be falling rapidly.

The stupid ones are too r-slurred to ever be handed the keys.
The clever ones think they are smart enough to drive the car at full speed through heavy traffic safely because they were given the keys.
Surprising amount of cases.
At least I am guessing this is what happens.
