I would unironically buy a phone with a battery like this if it had flagship specs

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1006830823/oukitel-wp100-titan-33000mah-rugged-phone-with-projector

I don't care about the size or weight at all. If it came with a modern SoC instead of some 5 year old mediatek garbage, a good amount of RAM, at least 512GB internal storage (with SD card support), a good screen, and a decent amount of promised software support I would absolutely buy one.

I've loved the "tank" aesthetic on smartphones ever since the first one I owned, the OG Motorola Droid.

kill qualcomm. behead qualcomm. roundhouse kick qualcomm into the concrete.

i blame them for the present state of things because apparently the only two options are to pay them seven gorillion dollars per second to use their latest 8 series in your product or accept a """midrange""" chip that's just a rebrand of something originally launched in 2013, with no options in the middle.

i have zero professional insight into (this part of) the chip industry, I'm just basing this on what I've observed on spec sheets over the years.

They just own basically every essential patent to cellular networks in the USA so you buy them and pay rent or frick off :marseymerchant:

…however Apples new 16e is their first homegrown modem so maybe this could change for other players too?

I don't really buy Apple products but they now have their own SoC and their own modem which is pretty cool. Those spaces need as much competition as they can get.

Let's be real tho the only products that will ever have either are going to be Apple products.

Oh for sure, but Apple sets the mood for a lot of companies. If they can pull it off it might mean Sammy has a fighting chance too.
