As someone who has long disabled youtube search history/recommendations (and shorts disabled with an extension) 
I was pretty shocked that only 4-5% of his views come from the subscription feed. The irony too is that this video of his is saturated with stock footage to break up the monotony (which he usually never does so it's more of a dunk on his dumber viewers) instead of just one longshot of him staring into the camera the whole time which he has done other videos about. Though part of this is possibly related to his use of a teleprompter and multiple takes to make better videos without obvious jump cuts but I suspect he's just high level attempting to dumb shit down to reach the lowest common denominators.

Overall these hot takes highlight the problem with doom scrolling as well as the overall decreased attention spans of people and the enshittification of all medias and movies which really started to gain momentum imo around 2000-2010.
Lets use the most common vehicle, movies. Movies used routinely to hold long shots but still held your attention.
Old Alfred Hitchpeepee movies are a good example of this which included slow long takes which were planned out in meticulous detail. Here's one of my favorite scenes showing this at it's best from North by Northwest (1959) :

I am not surprised. Consider this - if you regularly watch his videos, the YT algorithm will almost certainly shove his video near the top of your feed.
If I'm watching on desktop or TV, I'd say around 80% of the time, I watch videos that are in my sub box from either home page or side recommendations on a video. So I am among those people not watching from the subbox mostly, but if the video didn't show up on my home page, I'd watch it from subbox. That said, I have masterfully trained my algorithm to mostly show me thing I wanted to watch anyway

The best thing to do is to actually turn off your watch history. Then youtube has only your liked videos to go off of and in my opinion does a lot better job of showing more varied and related content than just pulling from your watch history. Also BlockTube is heavily recommended, helps cut down on channels and videos that you don't want Youtube to recommend without giving them extra data.

It's like the AI in-game says there's just such an ungodly amount of information that it's a sea of digital noise. No one person can parse through it reasonably anymore. It requires AI to create context. Otherwise it's completely unreasonable to expect a human to extract the useful information from such a mess. I think it's an issue of learned helplessness and too little too late. I don't think there's a scenario where things return to how it once was. "Fast cuts" "MTV-editing" was a trend in narrative film from like 20 years (interesting that the named examples are Domino and Bourne Identity, both from the same era of filmmaking) that is wildly out of fashion now, regardless of what's happening on Youtube. There's really no common trend between what video essayist cute twinks on YT are doing and actual film production because they're totally different mediums. If you can't find a feature film in 2025 with a sufficiently slow enough editing style for you it's because you're only watching the sloppest of slop. There's still like 200 new movies coming out every six months and capeshit is not representative of the majority of film just because it makes money (and honestly it seems like it's no longer really doing that anymore).
