The “Heartland” (Eastern Europe, Siberia and Central Asia) has basically been civilizational backwater for all of human history, but somehow controlling it is the key to controlling the World. I know it was invented by some bong, but the only ones who actually believe it is zigger eurasianists because they hope it will make Russia more relevant than the gas station with nukes that it is.

The theory explicitly regards the weakness of pre-modern transportation methods as a key factor in why no one had secured the heartland at the point of its creation and the mass installation of railways as key going forward so going back to horses would nix it.
