Burgers phased them out long time ago (1994) US used the a bit in Iraq/Afghanistan when they were out of stingers. They replaced those dildos with patriot so seeing ukraine getting those hawk missiles after patriots for the legendary spring counteroffensive is strange

Hawk is much smaller and cheaper. The USA retired their's because in 1994 there was no other country in the world that could possibly build an air force in the next 20 years.
It's probably still pretty effective against what the Russians have. In Military Thought the HAWK was one thing they had no answer for. It pretty well denied the air above NATO-controlled territory to Soviet planes. Since current Russian technology is basically picking up where the Soviets left off in the late '80s, a SAM from the '80s should be effective against them.

Russian don’t enter with their jets into danger zones. So that mostly against Iranian drones. Ukrainian had to use patriot to shot their own tb2 drone so burgers probably decided it’s cheaper to use those hawks against drones.
