They won't go home, supporting them is what cause them to come to the west. Ukraine simply can't win all the assumption west made was by judging Russian with same standards west judging it self. First west made mistake thinking Ukrainian were smart and they will just give up, but seeing how hard they were fighting was inspiring for the west and they taught Russian regrouping was Russian being afraid of Ukraine and thought giving Ukraine weapons it would scare Russian even more.
All new ukrainian soldiers interviews they don't expect to win they are waiting for some kind of miracle. There is no way to save Ukraine and giving them weapons would just prolong their suffering and cause more destruction of their infrastructure so the faster the give up the more they save.
Zelenskyy popularity is now probably even lower than 50% so Ukrainian legit have no reason to save this gov

Most independence wars etc took many years after decades of captivity, i agree with you on some parts but isnt it irrational to base the ultimate outcome on such a short term window?

This conflict is in many cases very special since it's for example first time when on side has below 1 fertility rate and is a country with kinda old population. Partisan war are made by young people. If now men will be able to leave Ukraine many will and other won't care under who they live, after all majority of Ukrainian were born in Soviet Union. Another example is that souther region that is under Russia, people there originally weren't pro Russian but they don't really care they are now under Russia and partisan fights ain't happening.
Best scenario for Ukraine would been if before the conflict they admitted Crimea ain't Ukraine and agreed not to join NATO then this conflict wouldn't had happened or even in March if they signed that peace deal but they believed so much in their hype that they started talking about 1991 borders and it was their fatal mistake, politician now don't know how to walk back from this statement and Russia double downed by annexing more regions.
As every conflict this has to much gay pride.

We'll see. The more that Ukraine loses the less Russia stands to gain. Now that Ukraine is digging in it's a war of attrition, and now Russia is dealing with strikes all over their oil facilities. At the rate Russia is going at now they'll have to fully commit to bulldozing Ukraine and continue sustaining whatever retaliation Ukraine throws at them. At this rate Russia is still poised to win, but it's looking increasingly less worthwhile.

Ukraine makes those attack sound more impressive than they are. Russia has 100's of those faculties, are good at building those and have no oil shortage. Like 2 weeks ago Nolan came to Ukraine with new himars missiles type telling Russian awaits new surprise, Ukraine launched over 90 of those missiles type to Crimea and failed. Because Russian were able to crack himars in late 2022 so himars is now only used as artillery weapon in front line.
Reason for it that in long term conflict there ain't any magical weapon and the winner is the one with more resources and will power. Ukraine was using drones with huge success in 2022 and had 20 times more drones than Russia, Russian learned about it and now using AI lanced drones and have 10-15 times more drone than Ukraine. Because Ukraine lacks resources it won't be able to adapt and counter Russia similar way. Russia dropped tons of money to now produce artillery guns with 70km range, West ain't going to do this for Ukraine.
