Honestly to an extent, we're witnessing ethnogensis in real time here. The contrast between what you expect from the public and private faces of the households of even highly-ranked Ukrainians is interesting. Admittedly for Syrskyi he's literally Russian as in he was born in Vladimir in Russia and grew up there before the dissolution of the USSR. I guess he figured Ukraine had brighter prospects in 1991 or was living there already.

He was working in Ukraine since 1980, he stayed in Ukraine probably because his corp was in Ukraine and he was already high ranking so he would lose his command post. He seems like not giving frick about anything he is 100% loyal to any president and seems to have made all the biggest frick ups of Ukraine since 2014 but since he is loyal he was never fired.
