At this point Russians should use actual submarines. At least drones cannot hit those.

Black Sea is to small for floats now with drones existence

On a serious note, i wonder how much of this destruction is due to just the quality of the naval drones/skill of the ukrainian pilots or just general unpreparadness by the russians

In this case, it's a little patrol boat with only one gun.
It's essentially defenceless against a jet ski suicide drone

It's not as well defended as a destroyer but calling a 1700 ton warship with vls cells and a 3" main gun "a little patrol boat" isn't accurate.

Modern western ships are fitted with remote 25mm weapons stations for this exact reason.

According to wiki this class is equipped with (2) 14.5mm guns and (2) automatic grenade launchers of 45mm and 55mm caliber, and it carried a helicopter that would presumably be equipped with some atgm. That should be plenty of firepower against these drones. (Assuming the can hit them).

I wonder if there remote weapon stations which are stabilized and have thermal imaging or is it some Russian guy shooting in the dark .

Russians depending on tech that doesn't actually work (because it's just cheap copies of last-gen NATO systems, or even consumer grade) is a lot of the reason these drone attacks are so effective.

The video of one boat shooting at a drone was using a manned turret.

So you can read the part of the Wikipedia entry that says "patrol boat"?

Yeah and the new 13,000 ton ddgx in the works is a "destroyer." Point is this ship was on paper more than capable of defending itself.

Every Russian weapon system works on paper.
They lost their flagship to obsolete subsonic missiles that it absolutely should have shrugged off. What chance does this thing have?

right sure, just a patrol boat
zigga theyve blown up a lot of shit im trying to ask deeper questions here

Yeah, and you'd notice that sending a patrol boat with limited defences to go get itself blown up might point to a lack of preparedness.

They launching a lot of drones and almost daily. In this case no matter how prepared you will be still few will slide pass and it's seems one is enough to destroy a ship. Also it's bongs who are controlling those drones not Ukrainian.

no i meant it more in a technological sense, like in all of the footage coming out of the successful attacks, it seems like the general strategy of russian ships in the black sea is to just try and shoot the drones and sink them before they hit the ship, i feel like if russia had the resources they would have done something more? because some pretty important ships have been sunk/damaged, and russia fricking loves its ships

Russian loving their ship is one of few things I don't really get since Russian navy was.
More could been for sure done but some drones would still eventually slip. Drones are very cheap and easy to produce now so it will takes couple of years till decades to find a way to counter them.

America is handing drones fine in the Red Sea, it's a Russian problem.

Yeah you are correct
You are comparing few homemade drones with massive every day attacks of best nato drones. Somehow western tanks ain't performing that well against Russian drones and ironically Arab homemade drones still hits ships.

Suicide torpedo boats used by Japs were essentially identical to modern "naval drones".
torpedo boats were literally invented in 19th century.
They were in fact first used in combat by russian Black Sea fleet itself against the navy.
