Tbf it was really a product of its time so much. You could drop Rod Serling into 2023 and it might work. The X-Files i dunno. Maybe because it defined the 90s.

I think a remake would fail solely on how iconic Duchovny and Anderson were as Mulder and Scully. Maybe a sequel or something of that nature would work, but Duchovny and Anderson are irreplaceable. I'm also skeptical that a studio would be able to replicate all the things that made the X-Files so good in the 2020s. It'd probably end up overproduced, with a cynical script, pop culture/political references that go stale immediately, excessive 4th wall-breaking, excessive man-versus-self plotlines or themes, weird DEI choices, etc.

Yeah and there were a few really exceptionally well written episodes by Morgan and the other Morgan and Wong in the early seasons. Nobody can pull that off anymore, and if they could their bosses would get confused and tell them to stop.
