I wonder if conspiracy theories were actually that much more fun back in the day before the Internet, or if most people could see through bullshit then. Wasn't identity pretty fricked until recently, like you could just pretend to be someone else and nobody would know, so in the 1800s, was it easy to convince everyone that Abraham Lincoln and the Queen of England were lizard people? If it was 1861 and some guy said that, I wouldn't know that 10 crazy guys had said that every half century before.
Or maybe photo proof has made it more intense? Like back then you could just call everything bullshit but now you have to think about it.
