Nuclear winter is a hoax. I'm not even joking, it was made up in the 1980s by leftoids who thought that their political opponents wanted to start a nuclear war, so they had to make nuclear war sound even worse than it really is. So they made up climate models where they overestimated the amount of smoke that would be generated by like 100 times. It was never taken seriously by the authorities in the US or the Soviet Union or by real scientists. And the tards who proposed it outed themselves when they said the smoke from the burning oil wells in Kuwait during Desert Storm (remember those? ) would cause massive climate effects and it did nothing.
It's a remarkable example of something that was complete total bullshit that the media presented as real and now tards who weren't even born when the hoax occurred (that includes most of you ) just take it on faith that it's a real thing because it's just common knowledge. It's amazing how hard it is to get midwits to realize something isn't true when they saw it in a Hollywood movie once.
It's very similar to the Euromissile Crisis that happened just a few years earlier. Soviet-controlled "peace" and "disarmament" groups in Europe cried and shit their pants about how nuclear war would be bad because leftoids are so r-slurred that they blamed America for the danger of nuclear war, not the Soviet Union which was actually aiming nuclear missiles at them. The commies knew that encouraging unilateral nuclear disarmament could only help them because in the West we had to listen to public opinion but in the commie bloc they had total control over everything their people ever heard about.
Soviets were also generally towards no nukes allowed because up until the late 70's to early 80's they'd probably win the conventional war but "lose" the nuclear one (if you could even win that).
And the US had an overwhelming advantage in nuclear weapons early on. Up until the late '60s the plan was that if they attacked and we were losing we'd just nuke the heck out of them. First in Europe and if that wasn't enough then we'd go after Russia. And to some extent I think that was our strategy up until the end of the Cold War.
Iirc the way it likely would've gone was Soviets would've charged through Western Germany with great success. France would've responded with tactical nukes per their policy, Soviets would've responded with a barrage of tactical nukes per theirs. The US would've responded with strategic nukes because they didn't differentiate between tactical and strategic, it's all just Eurasian nonsense to them, Soviets would've responded with their own strategic and boom bada boom South Africa is the global superpower
The US (and NATO in general) strategy until pretty late was to rely on lots of tactical nukes to hit all the airbases, bridges, etc. in eastern Europe so the Soviets would have no logistics. Especially under Eisenhower, who understood that this was an economic struggle and it was a lot cheaper for us to have 10,000 nukes in Europe than to keep a big army there. This gradually changed as the Soviets built up their own stockpiles and people in Europe started to wonder if they want to blow up their own continent, but it never completely disappeared. Throughout the whole Cold War we never said we wouldn't make a nuclear first strike.
I think the stuff where you actively try to put reflective stuff in the atmosphere might work. It works a lot better if you're actually trying to do it.

This is what these r-slurs actually thought Reagan was like. That they needed to make up a lie to convince him that nuclear war was a bad thing. I strongly disagree with a lot of his policies and especially his appointments, but the idea that he wanted to nuke the world is so fricking ludicrous, you'd expect these people would get put in a tard asylum.
One of them was Carl Sagan who would get extremely incredibly r-slurred if he ever strayed out of lane and talked about anything other than physics. His ideas about ancient Greece are like something you'd expect from a lazy 9th grade ESL student.
