I enjoy the film. It is simple but compelling, with good performances.

But I think its impact is a million times greater than the film itself. NotLD created the modern zombie genre as we know it. Almost every piece of zombie media since 1968 simply expands upon the template that George A Romero created.

Romero has always said that he cast Duane Jones in the lead because Jones gave the best audition. He never intended the film to be a vehicle for racial politics.

But an artist often has little control over how his work is interpreted by others.

Also, Barbara deserved to be b-word-slapped, she was annoying.
