Ivan Provorov refuses to wear a pride jersey for the warmups at pride night in the NHL, citing his religious beliefs, causing r/hockey, r/NHL, and r/HockeyPatrolNews to spontaneously combust

The two posts from /r/hockey have already been locked, but the /r/NHL posts and /r/HockeyPatrolNews are still open. This particular drama happened because Ivan Provorov, a Russian defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, refused to skate in warmups during pride night because he felt wearing a jersey with rainbow themes infringed on his religious beliefs. The subreddits mentioned above obviously have calm, rational thoughts around his decision. Obligatory homophobia warning, not to mention I made this on the Reddit app so the formatting may be shot to heck.

Anyways, here are some bangers from the different threads.

religion is inherently evil

Tortorella : “the real question here, is can I blame this on Kevin Hayes?”

This is a sticky situation. As a Muslim I'm not allowed to celebrate pride, so I would have probably done the same as provo. I don't believe I'm being homophobic in any way shape or form I just can't participate due to religious restrictions. I just can't see the problem in abstaining from something like this due to religion. One could say if you call me homophobic, you're in turn being Islamophobic. It's a complex situation idk.

I wonder how much of the “it’s his right!! He doesn’t have to wear it!” crowd would feel the same way if he chose not to wear a military appreciation jersey.

How are you gonna be the biggest clown on your team when you play with Tony DeAngelo

Jesus it’s a jersey, he can’t catch the gay from it

Speculation. Put the pitch forks down until we actually know why. I’m sure he’ll be asked about it post game

Bruhh… I hope this doesn’t hurt his trade value

That's his right. Just as it's also my right to mock him for being so sensitive.

Don’t worry your team sucks shit through a straw with or without your bender butt

Lmao it’s just wearing a jersey… people acting like he’s being asked to watch gay porn. Edit: For some of you angry, deeply closeted people replying to me. He shouldn’t be forced to wear it. It should be an individual choice for players, I agree. I’m merely making a commentary on the extreme opinions being shared in this thread.

His choice. Get over yourselves!

This is my beef with the whole "consequences" thing Leftists keep spouting. Who the frick are you? No, seriously.....who the Frick are YOU to determine a) who should face consequences and b) what those consequences should be? Just like Youtube, Twat-face and the rest, you are Nobody. They are Nobody. No one voted you or the Twat-face Cancel Warriors into office--no one appointed you, Zuckface or the rest of the White Cis Male Patriarchy Brigade to a seat in a court as Judge, Jury or Executioner. You should never have even been given the notion that you have, any way whatsoever, the Power to determine those things. That's what the frick is wrong with society and cancel culture as it stands right now. Everybody wants to think they're fricking SPECIAL and have some Right to determine who should speak, about what they should speak, and how they should speak it.

I'm categorically against any antisemitism, Nazisms, racisms, misogyny and trans hate speech, and I think my record of posts on this site proves that. But I do NOT have the right to shut someone else up. That's not my fricking place. I an argue with them--I can disagree--I can post until the cows go home....but God did not come down from High and anoint me (or you), or anyone else, the power to cancel or shut people up just because I disagree with them.

Ya'll need to learn your fricking lane and stick to it. The Right to Free Speech is for speech you hate, not for speech you agree with. Go sit the frick down somewhere until you realize your place and learn how to stay in it.
