Having her do the penalty shootout was a huge fricking mistake, and I say this as someone who actually supports the foid team...
Eventually, you reach a point where you're not the worldbeaters you used to be; I think the whole 2020 Olympics-2023 WC campaign is very reflective of that (not to say of how even the most "woke" people can't excuse your attitudes by that point)...

Also a bit of a tangent...but I distinctively remember how they scheduled one of the Round of 16 games to be held at noon Auckland time...pretty darn early for a knockout game, no?
Well...thing is, that was for the winner of the group where the USWNT was supposed to play in...and by having it so early in kiwiland, it would've been roughly primetime for us burgers! And it made sense - after all, the US team would win easily and the fans won't have to get up so early in the morning to watch and yadda yadda.
However...one almost loss to Holland here, and another unimpressive tie to Portugal there...and ergo, America was sent to play in the late game as a result...
The whole tournament served not only a slice, but an entire humble pie...
