Someone explain this to me. All of the college teams play other teams in their area, and then a group of judges decide who the best teams are to go into the final national tournament? And they left Florida out?

Pretty much. In this case FSU won every game, butt the ACC arbitrarily chose to let Alabama in despite them winning less games/losing.
