My family disowned (me) so I disowned them back

So, I (F21) was proposed to by some random dude my dad picked out for me. And I was like, "Uh, no thanks." But then my family went all Game of Thrones on me and disowned me. Like seriously, they kicked me out of the family group chat and everything. My dad even asked if he could be the admin so he could kick me out himself. Talk about petty! But you know what? I stood my ground and told them how I really felt. And now I've disowned them right back. Who needs arranged marriages when you can have a drama-filled family feud?

Went all "Game of thrones" on her by kicking her out of the group chat?

I was in a forced marriage right here in the U.S. My parents cut me off their health insurance while I was very sick with a life-threatening illness. They told me that I was marrying the man (more than twice my age) who had paid my dowry and going on his insurance. I was still in school and couldn’t afford medical care on my own, so I had to get married.

They promised me I wouldn’t have to live full-time with my husband in his city until I finished school, but that turned out to be complete BS. Within a month I was confined to his apartment with no cell phone, no debit card, and no vehicle. It took me almost two years to get out, and the only thing that saved me was my husband getting arrested for assaulting me.

I’m in a much better voluntary marriage to a staunch male feminist now.
