I respect people who know they will be bad parents so they don't have them.

I feel neutral about people who would be good parents but choose another lifestyle.

Probably an extremely small number of people “hate” people who want to be childless.

Fair enough. I don't want children because while I'm comfortable financially, I don't see myself having enough to give them the life they'd deserve.

I don't want children because I don't want the responsibility. I like my freedom.

I don't want children because there are so many children on the planet now who already need financial and emotional assistance.

I don't want children because the climate is worsening, the ever present threat of nuclear war is growing , the economy is worsening and I have some medical concerns I do not wish to pass on.

All of these are valid reasons and anyone who tells me I have no right to my own decisions needs to mind their own business

I don't dislike those people because they don't have or want kids, I dislike those people because they just suck as people

I used to laugh/mock childfree/antinatalist people until I had my kid.

It's so incredibly amazing and fulfilling to raise a child. I say this as someone with an objectively fancy/"cool" job, lots of hobbies, etc. Having a kid, especially with a great partner, is in a league of its own in terms of bringing happiness and satisfaction.

I now feel genuinely sorry for childfree/antinatalist people that they won't get to have this feeling. I think a lot of them aren't really "voluntarily" childfree, e.g., they have issues with fertility, issues with mental or physical health, or issues with finding a partner. For these people I think a lot of their childfree/antinatalist views are merely copes and I'm sorry that they're in that situation.

There's another set of people who I think have been mislead into thinking that the next promotion at their pointless email job, or consuming at the next cool restaurant, or taking another trip to a foreign country is a real pathway towards long term fulfillment. I feel bad for these people too, who may live their whole lives with a missing piece and not knowing it, perhaps, until it's way too late :(
