40k stopped being cool after its 2nd edition but Fantasy only started to suck after its 8th edition.

By my math, that means it's four times better!

Third edition was the most playable. It reduced a lot of the RPG inherited unnecessary convolution of army creation and wasn't burdened with overly cheese-able wargame rules like re-rollable 2++ save shit yet. Getting rid of vehicle specific armor and making vehicles into effectively large wound pool creatures was the final straw in ruining 40k as a fun tabletop game system.

Changes to basic stat lines even for classic units like Boyz, huge changes to all the vehicle rules, elimination of cool things like different kind of multi-weapons, continuous power creep for promoted factions, changes to the psychic phase.

40k is cool if you only care about it on a surface level. I don't need to know the entire history of the Horus Heresy and what all 20 Primarchs were doing, I just need to know that its cool when the gun nuns drive a flamethrower organ tank into a wall of bugs and melt them.
