It's a product to try to bring back to the game and explain modern mechanics in the simplest way possible.
The entire thing follows a script and specifically tells you NOT to shuffle the deck during play. A lot of pre-2000-era cards are getting updated (called "retrained" in the game) and the way the retrained cards play are actually pretty kino.
To be fair, this is supposed to be an introductory product to ease new players into slowly learning the game, of coursebit's not going to be the most advanced stuff possible
I'm glad I never got into the physical side of the game. I've been having fun making different versions of Branded decks and playing Master Duel, and getting to open 10 card packs a week is a lot of fun. (:
That game was SO fun. I got tired of Hearthstone getting worse and worse, but I missed the reward cycle of opening card packs. I used to collect cards irl but stopped when I realized it was collecting clutter.
On a whim, I bought Legacy of the Duelist as a card-opening simulator. It scratched that itch and it was a really fun deck-builder. I initially made a simple beat down deck that might have been competitive in 2002, with Summoned Skull and everything. And as I started getting my butt beat, I started reading every effect card and made a Blue Eyes Deck to clear the campaigns.
Now I'm addicted to the modern cards (2022+) but would give my left nut for a 2024 update to LOTD.
