[Christians] What do you believe about other denominations of christianity?

I believe as long as you're making a good faith effort to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ then you'll go to Heaven regardless of what specific denomination you follow (There are probably exceptions, like I don't know a lot about Gnostics but they probably don't count) but I gather this is a little weird and most of you believe the other denominations are hellbound? !christians !catholics

I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church (the Orthodox Church)

I think Protestants are wrong and it's the Pope's fault

In Catholic school they taught us that Methodists, Lutherans, and Episcopalians are cool but everyone else is either a weirdo, a grifter, or a straight up cult and best avoided.

How is any Christian -not- a catholic, you have historic evidence your denomination was made up by something like a king wanting a divorce or some grifter wanting free money.

If you got to pick and choose which parts of the faith are right , disobeying the divine, what is the point of following any of it.

When I read the Bible, particularly the Gospels, I just don't see Jesus as saying that it's not good enough to read his word and follow his teachings, you have to follow the rules of the Roman Catholic church and eat a communion wafer every week or else you're condemned to heck. I see someone who knows people are sinners and died to forgive us and called us to do our best in His name.

Not sure how to redpill you on it, depends on what you know already. Gnostics believe that the God of the Bible is either a malevolent or naive/misguided being who created the earth and humans to "play God", so to speak. The only way to escape this hellscape is to understand and "know" (gnosis is Greek for "knowing") the Divine Truth, sort of like enlightenment in Buddhism I suppose. To explain the entire mythology would take too much effort for my drunk self, but the "redpill" would be early church figures like Ireaneus advocating for burning/destroying all Gnostic texts. And indeed they were, it wasn't until the discovery of the Nag Hammadi library that anyone was able to know anything substantial about the actual details of the religion.

It's much more focused on personal salvation than "Christianity" is, some people think that the Gospel of John in the Bible was an attempt to bridge the gap between Gnostic and what would amount to modern day Christians. Both sects were considered "Christians" by the Romans at that point in time, they didn't give shit obviously. I would recommend looking into Valentinus, The Gospel of Truth, and the Apocryphon of John if you're looking for more info. The Gospel of Thomas is also very interesting, it was very close to actually being in the Bible and is AFAIK the only record of Jesus's actual personal teachings (obviously all this stuff is up for historical debate). It contains several things that are close to being Gnostic though, and was thus deleted.

Only Catholics and Orthodox. The rest are pretend Christians.

Also in my country, Catholics are more educated and wealthier than protestants so religion becomes a marker for class. I feel I might be a bit biased because of that or maybe that's just crazy talk.

Most of them are cool, except they sometimes use r-slurred bible versions. Heretical ones like the methodists and cults like the papists, they could still have actual saints in 'em but the main body of those is headed straight for h-e-double-toothpicks

As much as I find some aspects of the Orthodox and the Catholic denominations appealing, I'm concerned about any denominations that don't have an aspect humility to their faith. Believe with conviction, sure, but be willing to consider that you may be wrong. So many times in the Bible the people who insisted they were the keepers of tradition were absolutely railed on by the prophets. Calvinists can be pretty bad in a similar way, just different direction.

I sometimes get a lot of hostility from Catholics for being a Prot, but I also feel like few Catholics are willing to sit down and grapple with the idea that it was the sin of the Catholic Church that caused the reformation.
