Finished Dragon Age Inquisition recently. What a shitshow.

It was okay. Some of the ideas of cool to play through but the side characters and side quest design is pretty wack in their bland open world. Much prefer a tightly designed set levels/area rather than a open world ubisoft slop. The main story kinda falls apart later on and it's only saved for me with a select few characters being pretty interesting.

The amount of war table missions you get is really tiresome. These missions are side content you send out your advisors or party members on to get some reward after a few hours of real time.

eg. Send your Diplomat to a noble gathering in a foreign city to negotiate a trade. Get some gold and a unique item after its finished.

This is all done from a menu and you never actually do these missions in game yourself. Huge waste.

Some of those missions had a cool premise and described locations you've never seen in the series. Having these missions being actual quests you can play out in a set up area instead of a bland open world would have been nice to see instead of all this passive play where the game plays itself for you. Frick MMO design bs in single player games :marseyraging:

Mission tables are the dumbest mechanic games ever started fricking with. I don't know why any devs think it's at all enjoyable.

How hard can it be to just make a small level to have the quest in instead? Dragon Age 1 did it all the time. Hardest boss in the game was a side quest area consisting of like 4 rooms.

Dragon age 1 is the only good dragon age.

I really liked the idea of "have some strategy in your RPG" when I heard it in some pre-release stream, but it was the lowest effort possible implementation (despite writing for it needing quite a bit effort). Even the basicaly-tabletop ruling mechanic in Pathfinder: Kingmaker was eons better simply because you earn some resources and spend some others there, inqusition didn't let you do anything but unlock quests.

Even the stupid barebones quest to collect crafting materials was useless since it would require you to go back to that table every 15 minutes and reset it. Just have it autoloop ffs.

did you do tresspasser? it's kinda a snoozer to play through but it has some interesting consequences storywise for some of the party members

I've been playing Skyrim again recently. With a few mods it holds up very well.

Best bit in game: getting locked in a coffin with Mother's corpse and realising that she's still alive.

I never finished Origins, is it worthwhile and if so should I play the rest of the franchise?

Origins is good including the Awakening expansion but Dragon Age 2 + 3 are very meh tbh. Only play them if you really enjoyed the setting.
